How you can help a survivor of sexual violence:

Sexual Assault is NOT about sex. It is an act of violence where power and control are taken away from the survivor. If someone you know has been sexually assault, sexually abused, stalked or sexually harassed do as many things as possible to give them back power and control. For example:

  • Let them decide if they want to report to a police department.
  • Let the survivor decide when, where and with whom they are comfortable to talk about what happened.
  • Let the survivor know they have the right to decide what happens to their body at all times.
  • Ask them if they want a hug or other physical contact before touching them.

These are just a few ideas to get you started. For more information call our 24-hour hotline.
